Being a college student is hard. You have to worry about classes, your living situation, whether you need to work, making friends, and so much more. It’s a lot, and it can be overwhelming. Luckily there are a number of different tools to help you successfully navigate your college career. Here are a few apps to keep you on top of everything from class to cash.

Danielle Boyer, The STEAM Connection

Danielle Boyer, Ojibwe, is a young robotics inventor, author, activist, and advocate for youth who has been teaching kids since she was 10. Armed with a desire to make the technical space an equitable one, she created The STEAM Connection, a nonprofit that has helped her reach hundreds of thousands of children worldwide. Through her nonprofit Boyer creates innovative learning solutions utilizing robots that she invents and gives to kids for free to make technical education accessible. What are the top three must-have apps on your phone and how do you get the most out of them?

1. Instagram: Rethinking Its Use

Instagram is best known for its photos and reels, but it is an underrated networking and career development app. I am constantly messaging STEM professionals to ask questions and am reading guides to learn more about everything from aerospace engineering to robot design. Instagram has enabled me to find amazing mentors, join impactful fellowships, and meet now lifelong STEM friends.

 

AISES Career Hub and Opportunities Board have free online job and career resource information.

At the Career Hub job seekers can scan jobs, upload a resume or explore career resources by industry, state or job function. The Opportunities Board is a centralized hub of information with opportunities like scholarships, internships, and more. PRE-COLLEGE OPPORTUNITIES

 

Do you know a rising U.S. 12th grader with a great science research project? Encourage them to enter our competition that recognizes the future leaders in science and awards more than $3 million each year to deserving students and supportive schools. The top award is $250,000!

 

Girls Who Code is a nonprofit organization working to close the gender gap in technology by equipping young women with the computing skills needed to pursue 21st century opportunities.

This year the theme is Water. 8 weeks on Wednesday, weekend homework that is family friendly. Hoping that we can offer weekend live visits in Calgary and Edmonton.

 

Anyone who is enrolled full-time in a four-year Bachelor of Arts program at an accredited university in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico may apply for these scholarships; however, preference will be given to applicants who are female, belong to a minority group, or have a disability.

 

UNDERGRADUATE OPPORTUNITIES

We are in the process of recruiting students to participate in a virtual Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) connecting applied energy research with new product development.

 

The Luce Indigenous Knowledge Fellowship honors and supports a select cohort of fellows as they work to further Indigenous knowledge creation, dissemination, and perpetuation in Indigenous communities.

 

This annual, free conference brings together teachers of all experience levels to connect and share best practices for leading student research.

 

Actively drive the discourse and experiences of underrepresented girls in STEM by owning, generating, and critiquing the collective body of scholarship on, and offering culturally responsive programs for, girls of color (e.g. African American, Native American, Latina, and Asian American) and STEM education.
