Welcome to the Fall 2014 Issue of Winds of Change. Read the “Sticking with STEM” article and the challenges of encouraging students to pursue — and stick with — STEM studies, and a look at the latest assessment of tribal forest lands and its implications on page 28. Meet the winners of the 2014 Professional Awards in executive, technical excellence, and engineering categories. This issue has a preview of the AISES National Conference distinguished keynote speakers Dr. John Herrington and Notah Begay III. Welcome to the 2014–2015 Special College Issue of Winds of Change. This edition is our compilation of the Top 200 Colleges for Native Americans. Data was compiled and analyzed for schools from across the country that are notably supportive of indigenous students in measures from percentage of the student population and campus organizations to graduation rates. Also included is an overview of academic programs that are leading the way in sustainable energy. A discussion of medical schools taps the experience of some practicing Native physicians for their take on their own medical education and the advice they have for aspiring doctors. AISES is dedicated to the academic futures of so many of young people, and we encourage you all to push forward and look for the finish line.

In March, the Leadership Summit gathered an enthusiastic group of students and professionals who were able to hone skills and compare notes on career building. And the National American Indian Virtual Science and Engineering Fair (NAIVSEF) offered a digital platform for many of our pre-college students to demonstrate their projects and explain what they learned. In this issue is a list of the Top 10 Fields in STEM where members can zero in on opportunities in some of today’s hottest jobs.
